Lago Mar Resort, Fort Lauderdale, Florida
I think I have mentioned a few times my love for hotels, right? If not, let me just reiterate this point. I love hotels. I love to explore new hotels and I love to tell people about them. A good hotel will make or break a vacation or even a work trip.
Wen a recent work trip took me to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, I tried to find a perfect hotel so that I could enjoy my evenings while Aaron and the kids were able to have some fun. Since it is summer, I am lucky enough to be able to take them along with me on these little trips. We decided to stay at the Lago Mar Resort.
This hotel is in a residential neighborhood set away from the Fort Lauderdale strip. So, if you are looking for the night life of the beach town–this is likely not your hotel. However, if you want a resort that is quiet, has lots to do, and is near-by everything you need–this is the place for you.
We had a hard time getting the kids off the hammock and away from the kids play structure. One great thing about the resort is everything is enclosed and pretty close together. I imagine as the kids get older, we would let them have free range of the place—to play tennis and swim while we sit by the pool and read. (Although we have never been on a cruise, the Lago Mar reminds me of what it would be like to be on a cruise–lots to do, relaxing and easy.)
Lago Mar resort is old—built in the 1960’s and it has that sixties charm. You feel like you may even meet up with an old movie star while you walk down the hallways. Fortunately, the whole place has been renovated yet still has that neat retro feel to it. Definitely , not a sterile hotel that feels like any other.
Our room, in the Executive wing, had a large (very large) and open living room, with a pull out sofa-bed and a beautiful lanai overlooking the pool and ocean. This was the most perfect place to watch the summer storms roll in over the ocean.
The bedroom was nice and the beds were clean and comfy. And, the bathroom was huge! The only downside was the VERY slow internet service and our dinner at the fine dining restaurant was less than great.
One of my favorite parts of the hotel was this sitting room area—adjacent to the bar. The chairs here were so inviting and retro. I wanted to put on a vintage dress and hang out here drinking a martini.
Look at this chair-so comfortable…..we didn’t want to leave. We kept making plans to have drinks in the evenings here–but something else would always distract us…..like beach walking or pool swimming.
We loved our time at Lago Mar–each of us for different reasons. I loved the sixties feel of the building, Aaron loved the beach and the chance to see nesting sea turtles, and of course, the kids loved all of the activities.
If you are in the Fort Lauderdale area—looking for a different hotel experience–you should explore the Lago Mar. Click here for their website.
