Restaurant Review: The Breakfast House

For Aaron’s graduation week celebrations, we went out to eat.  A lot.

Aaron’s family was in town and it wasn’t really easy to get everyone up and ready and out of the house at a reasonable hour so we found ourselves lingering over breakfast  more than normal.  Over breakfast, we would make plans for the day.  It was nice.  I forgot how much I like going out to breakfast.

In Sarasota, there is this cute little house turned restaurant called “The Breakfast House”  that is just so inviting.  After reading some reviews on Yelp, I was a little hesitant but we all know how Yelp reviews can be–you have to take them with a grain of salt.  Keeping that in mind,  we decided to give it a go.

So happy that we did.  The place was super charming with mismatched tables and chairs, the cutest little salt and pepper shakers (different ones on each table) and just a really comfortable place to sit and have breakfast.  We were a large group (8 of us) and took their largest indoor table.  The staff was very attentive and went out of their way to make things easier for us with the kids.

And, the food was excellent.  They had a nice assortment of typical breakfast foods: eggs, omelets, pancakes–but they also had a few unique things on the menu that we really liked.

Aaron had the Key West Shrimp with Grits–a Southern dish made with locally sourced seafood.  He loved it!  Not to mention it came with one of their signature biscuits.  If I wasn’t on a diet , I would go back right now–just for the biscuits.

Another hit was the Eggs Benedict with Local Lobster.

Nutella Stuffed French Toast for those of us with a sweet tooth.  Decadent.

I think we were all amazed by these pineapple coconut pancakes.  A paper thin slice of pineapple baked right into the pancake.  They are so pretty and were great tasting too. I need to learn to make these at home.

Everything was good.  Good coffee.  Good food.  Good  service.  Good price (thanks for paying Aunties!).  It was just an all around good breakfast to start a good morning adventure.

If you live in Sarasota or plan on vacationing here, I think”The Breakfast House” is worth a visit.

However, I do have a couple words of warning.

1) I would caution if you have rowdy rambunctious kids, it may feel a little uncomfortable.  The place is small and even though Rosie and The Bean are well seasoned restaurant goer’s–I felt that their little voices were filling up the space.  No one said anything or even gave us dirty looks but I did feel like we basically took over the place from the unsuspecting guests.  They do have outdoor seating which may have been a little better as far as the kids go.

2) We sat inside because it was hot outside but their air conditioner just so happened to be blowing directly on our table.  We were all freezing and they were not able to adjust it to not blow on us.  It wasn’t that big of a deal but just a warning to bring a sweater or request a table near the front of the restaurant.
